The B-25 gained renown as the bomber in the historic Doolittle Raid on April 18, 1942. Led by Lieutenant Colonel Jimmy Doolittle, 16 B-25Bs launched from the USS Hornet, bombing Tokyo and other Japanese cities. Despite minor damage, the raid boosted American morale and compelled the Japanese to commit resources to defend their home islands. This image features a B-25 Mitchell “Doolittle Raiders” in tribute to the brave airmen who undertook this historic mission into Japan.
